How to Make a Photo Collage

7/19/14

I don’t know about you, but I have a bunch of weddings coming up–it is just that time of the year.  I  normally try to make one crafty gift and then buy something off of the registry.  That way there is one personal gift and one practical gift.  My favorite go-to for crafty wedding gifts is the last name photo collage.

I’ve made a few of these of in the past, but this is my first color one.  When I made them for college friends, I would walk around and take photos around campus which added an extra special touch.   Here is the first one I ever made.  They are always a big hit!

Thanks to Pinterest, if you do not want to walk around taking pictures of letters, you do not have to! Shanty to Chic pinned an awesome post with a link to a vast resource of letters on Flickr that you can find here.  You’ll find that the hardest part is picking out the letters!

First, I picked out all of the letters I needed and saved them to my computer.  I used Microsoft Powerpoint to resize all of the letter photos to 4×6.  I then transferred the 4×6 letter photos to Microsoft Word onto legal sized paper for printing (you could probably print straight from Powerpoint, but I was trying to fit multiple photos on each piece of paper).  Since my printer has been on the outs with me, I went to Staples and had them printed for $1.50 on regular computer paper.  Definitely worth the money so that I wouldn’t throw my printer across the room trying to get it to print 🙂
Next, I picked up my frame from Michaels for a little over $20 after a 50% off coupon.  Amazon also has a similar one here if you do not have a Michaels near you. They also have 3 and 4 opening photo frames.
Above is the frame from Michaels and my printouts from Staples.  Next I cut out my letters and taped them to the back of the mat. Yes, it is that easy.
Now put the back on and TaDa!!  For a DIY personable wedding gift at about $24, it really doesn’t get much easier than that 🙂  You could also make one for yourself using your last name, a phrase, a special date, etc.  There are so many possibilities!
What DIY wedding gifts do you like to make?
Thanks for stopping by!

Question: did you print from staples from regular legal computer paper? This is a cute idea!

I can't believe how easy this sign was to make! I thought all of those graphics would be super complicated so I never gave it a second thought. You've opened a world of possibilities. Thanks so much for linking up to our party. I am totally sharing this awesomeness 🙂 Hugs, CoCo

I had actually started a project just like this for a friend’s Christmas gift last week. I just ran across your post today. After seeing your BAILEY collage, I’m fairly certain we may have used a few of the same signs! I recognize the A from the J&M wall and the Y from the sign in front of Samford Hall. Am I correct? lol! Hi I'm Jess, and I call the Rocket City (Huntsville, AL) home!
