The girls finally had our first book club at my house this past Tuesday. Starting a book club has been on my to-do list for a while now, and it was nice that it finally happened. I hosted for the first club, and my book of choice was Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I picked this particular book because I was told it was a must read of 2012, and they are also making a movie about it! For this book, I chose to do audiobook vice reading it since I would be traveling to Nashville. This means that I was in the car for 19 hours over the span of a little over a week…eeek!!
Since I was hosting, I decided that I would make some adult punch and some of my favorite snacks to share.
Please pardon the photo quality, there were taken with my iPhone : ) I will hopefully be upgrading soon though!
Here’s what I made:
adapted from cooks.com
1 (12 oz) can frozen fruit punch concentrate
1 (12 oz) bag frozen strawberries
3 cups water
1 cup orange juice
2-3 tbsp lemon juice
1 (2-liter) of ginger ale
1 bottle champagne
Mix all together in a punch bowl, slowly stir and add ice. Voila!!

Swiss and Ham Sandwiches
I’ve seen a lot of versions of this on Pinterest, but this is what I do:
2 packages of sweet Hawaiian rolls (the small dinner roll looking ones)
About 6 slices of decently sliced Virginia Ham
6 slices Scheese
1/2 stick of real butter, melted
1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Spray a 9×13 pan with cooking spray. Slice the rolls into two sections so that there is a bottom and a top. Place the ham and cheese across the bottom half of the rolls and add the top back on. Melt the butter and add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and poppy seeds. Use a brush to spread the sauce all of the rolls. Bake about 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and serve!
Now to the book club part! So I’ve only been to one other book club, and I know that all book clubs are different. I figured we would figure out what direction we would take after our first one. First I wrote up some discussion questions. Just kidding! I am not that deep! I googled some discussion questions and here is what I came up with.
surprised—shocked—by it? Or did you have an inkling?
upbringing and ultimate personality as an adult?
were lying to one another…and to you, the reader? Why do they lie…what do
they gain by it?
have let her go if she wanted to leave?
look like from the outside…and what does it look like from the inside?
initiate them for Nick?
Nick, Rand, Marybeth, Go, Boney, Desi)? If so, which characters and why?
always think he was innocent? When did you start to think he may have done it?
mental state is innate (she was born with it) or do you think it developed out
of her environment? What contributed to her personality traits?
originally planned? Why did she come back to Nick?
