Repurposed Sewing Machine

10/5/15

My Mamaw’s old sewing machine recently came into my possession, and I knew I wanted to do something neat with it.  It was one of the old ones where the desktop folds open to reveal a sewing machine.  I decided to repurpose the sewing machine for the entry to our house as a place to hold Riley’s walking items.  I loved how it turned out!  Here it is styled in the backyard, who doesn’t love a good repurposed sewing machine? 🙂

Now onto the “before” pictures.

The first thing I did was remove the sewing machine and all of its parts.  Then I got to sanding since it wasn’t in the best condition, and I was using regular paint that I had gotten on sale at the mis-tint area in Lowes.

For the next step, I finally got to put my new paint sprayer from HomeRight!  I’ll be honest, this was my first time using a paint sprayer, but it was very easy to use!  I also used the paint spray shelter to shield the house from any overspray.   And yes this is in my driveway, my neighbors love me 😉

After she was all painted, I added a basket (from Target) to the inside of the sewing machine to hold items.

Here are some more pics of her all complete : )

See that little strip on the bottom of the front that is missing?  I had the pieces drying in the garage and was impatient and stacked them on top of each other so they are out of the way.  Apparently I didn’t wait long enough and it pulled off the top layer…ooops!  Originally I had planned to just use straight paint, but after my ooopsies I decided to just go with it and distress it!  I also used citrus wax for the first time and had fun playing around with it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Jess

I love it! Such a cute and useful re-purpose! I am so impressed with your paint sprayer and little shelter to keep in the overspray! What did you do with the old sewing machine? It looks like that could be an interesting piece somewhere, too. Thank you for coming and sharing at Celebrate it Sunday!

Thanks Chloe! The sewing machine was not in the best shape, so I left it on the side of the road : ( I have another sewing machine I purchased off of Craigslist that is in better condition that I can hopefully do something cool with : )

Jess this upcycle is so awesome! I love how you gave it a brand new life. I would have never though to use this to hold toys which is total genius. Great job, CoCo

She di782#n&1d;t pull out due to their political differences; they were stalling hoping she would pull out. They have someone else in mind; and believe me there are many talented actresses out there other than Beyonce. We’re talking about a young lady who read her own letter on television to the first lady like she was ten. C’mon now.
