Last year was my first year to do a garden. It was a last minute idea, and I didn’t really know what I was doing. I learned a lot from last year am anxious to start this year. For this year, I decided to be ambitious and start everything from seeds.
To begin I bought this Jiffy Greenhouse from Lowe’s for $7 and about $23 of vegetable seeds (if all of the seeds grow nice and strong, this will be much cheaper than what I paid for plants last year). It cost about double for the plants last year, not to mention the soil additives, cute little garden fence, and decorative flowers for the border.
I chose this particular greenhouse because the pellets were larger for the vegetable plants. The instructions were really easy. First you add warm water to the pellets so that they expand. This took a little bit longer than I expected…I guess I was hoping for instant gratification : ) Here is an example of a fully expanded pellet compared to the original pellet.
Next I mapped out on paper where each plant seed would go in the greenhouse. I used some nail polish to indicate the front of the greenhouse so I can match it up with my diagram. Next I planted my seeds.
