Last summer I got three wooden barrels from an online yard sale. Now that I have the awning, I wanted to do some mosquito and bug repellant planters that could hang out on the corners.
Lowe’s was running a sale on Bonnie plants, 2 for $5 for any herbs and vegetables in peat pots. So I stocked up : ) I also picked up some citronella plants which are the ultimate mosquito plant, but sadly are rarely on sale.
I started by placing a coffee filter in the bottom of the pot over the drainage hole so that I won’t lose any soil. Then I filled up the barrels two-thirds of the way with cheap top soil. The last third I filled with nice potting soil.
The second container contains citronella, oregano, and rosemary.
Last but not least, in the third planter I planted citronella, thyme, and parsley.
Now I have herbs at my fingertips, plus hopefully they will help keep the mosquitoes away!
Thanks for stopping by!
